Many industries are just now beginning to realize the importance of Artificial Intelligence and how it will soon shape our future. Regardless of your own personal feelings regarding AI (and whether or not it’s going to take over the world), we must all understand that it will continue to be developed and become a part of our everyday lives. One area that AI is generally not discussed in is the fitness industry. The fitness industry is largely focused on person to person interactions where you have a coach or personal trainer and they work with you to reach a desired outcome. As AI is becoming more advanced, that personalized feel will soon be achievable from your phone. Although there are endless possibilities when it comes to AI and the fitness industry, potential for apps and wearable technology are definitely some of the most accessible going forward.



In regard to our phones, there are many fitness apps out there that can help us better track our progress. One new feature being tested is apps that are able to track your movements to correct form in the gym, running outside, or even yoga. In this case, Artificial Intelligence is acting as our “personal trainer” and giving us personalized feedback in real-time.


Wearable technology is something that many fitness enthusiasts choose to purchase to enhance their performance and let them track what they are doing throughout the day. This technology sets itself apart through its use of smart sensors that connect to the web and sync to the Bluetooth on your phone. As AI learns to collect more data from us and what we are doing, it is possible that it will be able to predict our short and long-term health conditions and give us actionable steps to prevent or diminish them.


Although Artificial Intelligence can sound scary or daunting, we must focus on all the good it has potential to do. When we all started our fitness journey, there were undoubtedly moments when this sort of technology could have benefited us or stopped us from doing something stupid. Although AI will change the way we stay active, lose weight, or gain muscle, it will never be able to replace the many talented humans who we meet and connect with along the way.
